For more than 25 years, the Duluth Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has partnered with community members and local businesses to honor Juneteenth.

2022 marks the first year Juneteenth is a recognized Federal holiday.

This holiday weekend, take the time to reflect and honor and lift up those who have been a part of the Twin Ports Juneteenth celebrations in the past. We encourage you to spend this Juneteenth weekend – Friday, Saturday, Sunday with your family to dig deeper, talk about your own ancestry, and learn about others. Research, discuss, understand what Juneteenth is all about. Volunteer. Get rooted. Join the celebrations.

It is time to make a commitment change.

Juneteenth celebrations in the Twin Ports will begin Friday, June 17 and extend through Sunday, June 19.

Friday, June 17

Honor Our Elders Luncheon

11:30am – 1:30pm
Duluth City Hall
This community gathering will honor the elders who have kept the spirit of Juneteenth alive in the Twin Ports. A delicious soul food lunch will be provided by K’z Eatz & Treatz.

Saturday, June 18

Twin Ports Juneteenth Celebration

1:00pm – 5:00pm
Barker’s Island – Superior, WI

The Twin Ports Juneteenth Celebration will be held at Barker’s Island in Superior, Wisconsin from 1-5pm on Saturday, June 18, 2022. Family Rise Together, Family Freedom Center, and DanSan Creatives are collaborating to hold this pivotal community event sponsored by the Ordean Foundation, the McKnight Foundation, the City of Superior, the Superior Police Department, the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce, LISC Duluth, Minnesota Public Radio, Bent Paddle, St. Louis County, Essentia Health, Duluth 1200 Fund, Super One Foods, and Bridging Health Duluth.

St. Mark’s Gospel Brunch

The public is invited to come together for a Gospel Brunch to celebrate community, togetherness, and the spirit of Juneteenth. The event will feature delicious food and live music.

NAACP Annual Juneteenth Jubilee

1:00pm – 6:00pm

Central Hillside Community Center

This community celebration will feature free food, open mic, and special entertainment. Invite your family and friends to celebrate the end of this Juneteenth weekend with the hard-working NAACP Duluth Branch.

How to Help

The NAACP Annual Juneteenth Jubilee is seeking 6-10 volunteers and $5,000 in donations that will go towards prizes, food, entertainment and permit fees. Folks interested in volunteering, donating, or tabling can reach out to branch@duluthnaacp.org.
